{"id":116,"date":"2010-09-14T00:30:54","date_gmt":"2010-09-14T00:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southernstarssymphonicbrass.com\/?p=116"},"modified":"2010-09-22T03:44:09","modified_gmt":"2010-09-22T03:44:09","slug":"brass-spectacular-kicks-off-sssb-season-in-knoxville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southernstarssymphonicbrass.com\/?p=116","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Brass Spectacular&#8221; kicks off SSSB season in Knoxville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The concert season kicks off with a <strong>concert in Knoxville<\/strong> on  Sunday, Sept. 26 at 3pm which is hosted by the Cokesbury United  Methodist Church at 9908 Kingston Pike.\u00a0\u00a0 The concert theme is <strong>Brass Spectacular<\/strong> and will include patriotic, marches, movie, Broadway, jazz\/big band  swing and sacred hymn music which will please all ages.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Williams,  Knoxville TV icon, will be the emcee for the concert.\u00a0\u00a0 Guest artists  will be Steven Boyce, a tenor in the Knoxville Choral Society,  performing &#8220;Bring Him Home&#8221; from the musical Les Miserable.\u00a0 Danny  Brian, renowned Knoxville organist, will perform Gigout&#8217;s &#8220;Grand Choeur  Dialogue&#8221; a powerful selection which will be augmented by the brass  ensemble.\u00a0\u00a0 Finally, two of the band&#8217;s members will dazzle the audience  with their technical skills:\u00a0\u00a0 Brandon Jones (principal euphonium) will  play &#8220;Pantomime&#8221; which will demonstrate why he has been recognized  internationally as a &#8220;rising star&#8221; on this instrument.\u00a0\u00a0 Then Chris  McCormick (TTU jazz professor) will give his jazz rendition of the Ray  Charles hit, &#8220;Georgia on My Mind&#8221; with a trumpet feature.<\/p>\n<p>The full concert program is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Liberty Fanfare&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;<\/strong>by John Williams<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amazing Grace<\/strong>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;traditional hymn<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pantomime<\/strong>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.by Philip Sparke,\u00a0 <em>featuring Brandon Jones &#8211; Euphonium soloist<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Hymn to the Fallen (<\/strong>from Saving Pvt.
