{"id":156,"date":"2011-01-18T01:49:14","date_gmt":"2011-01-18T01:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southernstarssymphonicbrass.com\/?p=156"},"modified":"2011-01-18T01:49:14","modified_gmt":"2011-01-18T01:49:14","slug":"sssb-presents-silver-screen-hits-on-jan-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southernstarssymphonicbrass.com\/?p=156","title":{"rendered":"SSSB Presents &#8220;Silver Screen Hits&#8221; on Jan. 23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What  do the movies E.T., Pink Panther, Days of Wine and Roses, Fame, The  Mission, Wizard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s, Peter Gunn, The King  &amp; I, An American Tale, \u00a0De-Lovely, Porgy and Bess, Pennies from  Heaven, An American in Paris, and Goldwyn Follies all have in common?  \u00a0They represent movies for which beautiful and familar music has become  part of our popular music culture, and they will all be represented in  the coming concert by the Southern Stars Symphonic Brass (SSSB) on Jan.  23 called \u201cSilver Screen Hits\u201d. \u00a0\u00a0This concert is supported by our 10\/11  Season Sponsor &#8211; Bed &amp; Biscuit Kennel, and Baton Sponsor &#8211; Farm  Bureau Insurance and agent Gordon Atchley.<\/p>\n<p>The  SSSB\u2019s ensemble of 30 professional brass and percussion musicians has  been dazzling its audiences for 3 seasons thru its brand of \u201cPremium  Entertainment\u201d which combines music for all ages, a wide variety of  music styles, outstanding guest vocalists, and virtuoso instrumental  soloists from the ensemble\u2019s outstanding musicians. \u00a0Mr. Chaz Barber of  Knoxville, will be the featured vocalist to sing with the SSSB at this  concert and his rich baritone voice will be showcased on \u201cThe King &amp;  I\u201d and \u201cGershwin for Brass\u201d medlies, and Frank Sinatra\u2019s \u201cI\u2019ve Got You  Under My Skin\u201d. \u00a0\u00a0Chaz currently teaches voice at Roane State and serves  as choir director at the Community Church of Fairfield Glade.<\/p>\n<p>Two  instrumental soloists will be featured in the concert program. \u00a0\u00a0Adam  Featherston of Nashville, will be playing on trombone Cole Porter\u2019s  poignant ballad \u201cEverytime We Say Goodbye\u201d which was sung by Natalie  Cole in the movie \u201cDe-Lovely\u201d. \u00a0\u00a0Adam holds Bachelor of Music degree  from UT, and a Master\u2019s degree in Music from TTU. \u00a0\u00a0He has connections  to Crossville, as his grandmother currently lives here.<\/p>\n<p>The  second instrumental soloist, Dr. Greg Danner, has been featured  previously in prior concerts and will be performing the \u201cAllegro from  the 3rd Horn Concerto\u201d by Mozart. \u00a0Surprizingly, this classical gem was  part of the soundtrack for the movie \u201cFame\u201d about NYC\u2019s School for the  Performing Arts. \u00a0\u00a0Dr. Danner is the Professor of Composition at TTU in  Cookeville and is a regular in the pit orchestra at Cumberland Co.  Playhouse, so undoubtedly you have heard him on your visits there.<\/p>\n<p>Dr.  Steven Sudduth will be guest conducting the SSSB for the remaining two  concerts in the Crossville Concert Series, including the coming Jan. 23  performance. \u00a0\u00a0SSSB\u2019s regular conductor, Dr. Donald Ryder, is on  sabbatical from the Univ. of Tenn. and has some other committments to  follow during this time period. \u00a0\u00a0Steven Sudduth is currently Director  of bands and Low Brass at the University of the Cumberlands in  Williamsburg, KY. \u00a0He has taught at the university level in North  Carolina, North Dakota and South Dakota. \u00a0\u00a0Dr. Sudduth has won several  awards for his music compositions and is an accomplished trombone  musician for \u00a0various symphony orchestras and brass quintets. \u00a0\u00a0The SSSB  is looking forward to having Steven debut at the coming concert.<\/p>\n<p>Besides  the vocalist and instrumental music mentioned above, the concert will  include the following selections: \u00a0\u00a0\u201cFanfare &amp; Flying Theme from E.  T.\u201d, \u00a0\u201cSomewhere Out There\u201d, \u201cCartoon Classics\u201d, \u201cWizard of Oz\u201d medley,  \u201cGabriel\u2019s Oboe\u201d, \u201cDeath or Glory\u201d march, \u201cLet\u2019s Face the Music and  Dance\u201d, and \u201cTouch of Mancini\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The  concert will begin at 3:30 pm on Sunday, Jan. 23 and will be held in  the Stone Memorial High School Auditorium of I-40 at Exit 320 (Genesis  Road) at 2800 Cook Road. \u00a0\u00a0Prior information errorenously reported the  concert to begin at 3pm, but the correct start time is 3:30 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets  for this concert are $18 for Adults and $5 for Students. \u00a0\u00a0These are  available for advance purchase at Cumberland Eye Care on Peavine Road in  Fairfield Glade, \u00a0First National Bank of Tennessee branches in  Crossville and Fairfield Glade, Cumberland Co.
