Tennessee’s Official Brass Band Presents “March Madness”<\/div>\n

The Southern Stars Symphonic Brass (SSSB) continue the celebration of their 18th season with \u201cMarch Madness,\u201d the next concert this season, which takes place Sunday, March 1, beginning at 3pm at Cumberland County High School\u2019s new, 1,200-seat auditorium.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
“March Madness” is the concert theme and while this generally refers to the NCAA basketball tournament we will not be holding any dribbling exhibitions or free-throw contests. We will, however, treat the audience to a wide variety of music styles demonstrated by this 30-piece ensemble of professional musicians including four marches.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

National Emblem march;<\/div>\n
Melody Shop march;<\/div>\n
Peace Like a River – featuring a five piece trombone section;<\/div>\n
Drum Major’s Daughter – an overture by Jacques Offenbach;<\/div>\n
John Philip Sousa’s Yorktown Centennial march;<\/div>\n
Prismatic Light – a rousing selection;<\/div>\n
JS Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #2 (Finale) – featuring 4 virtuoso cornet\/trumpet musicians including a demonstration by our principal cornet musician of a valveless trumpet played in the 1400 – 1700 era;<\/div>\n
Folks on the Hill – a flugelhorn swing style selection by Chris McCormick (TTU jazz prof);<\/div>\n
Jubilant Praise – based on the hymn tune “Glory to His Name”;<\/div>\n
The President\u2019s March;<\/div>\n
2 Part Inventions – a SSSB virtuoso euphonium duet by the husband & wife team of Austin & Briana Vogt;<\/div>\n
and last but not least, Midwest march.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The SSSB are comprised of 30 professional musicians from across Tennessee including from the areas: Clarksville, Nashville, Tullahoma, Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Crossville, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Alabama, and Georgia.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The band\u2019s conductor is Dr. Steven Sudduth, who travels to rehearsals and concerts from the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The band is a nationally known brass band who has been invited to perform on three occasions at the prestigious Great American Brass Band Festival<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span>, and have also produced three CDs and DVDs.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They give a “free to the public” concert Christmas concert every other year, and have donated to local charities with proceeds, as well as to the local fine arts programs of the Cumberland County school system.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As a result of their mission to provide high quality concerts and support to the community, they were honored to be recognized by the TN State Senate & House legislatures as “The Official Brass Band of Tennessee.\u201d<\/div>\n

Adult tickets per concert are $22 and Students are admitted for free. A Short-Season Ticket for the remaining two concerts (March 1 and May 3) is a significant bargain at $35.<\/div>\n

Tickets may also be purchased in the lobby of CCHS auditorium on the evening of the concert.<\/div>\n
