John Philip Sousa Concert slated for Sunday, Sept. 23 by the Southern Stars Symphonic Brass Band

The Southern Stars Symphonic Brass Band (SSSB) kicks off their 2018/2019 concert season on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 3 pm at the beautiful 1200-seat auditorium at Stone Memorial High School in Crossville.

The brass band is a 30-musician-strong, professional instrumental ensemble in their 11th season of providing their brand of “Premium Entertainment” with their three-concert season in Crossville, Tennessee. The musicians are drawn from the areas of Nashville, Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Crossville, Knoxville, and southeastern Kentucky, and represent university & secondary music educators as well as other careers who are also excellent musicians.

The Sept. 23 concert is themed “SOUSA FEST” and will feature many selections by the famous John Philip Sousa, dubbed the March King for his prodigious compositions of outstanding marches.

The concert will be presented in the style of the concerts that the Sousa Band performed at the turn of the 20th Century.

Music selections will include:
“Fanfare for Fenway” by John Williams
“Esprit de Corps” march by Sousa
“Blue Bells of Scotland” – cornet solo by Kathryn Adduci (new principal cornetist)
“Simple Gifts” – a Shaker hymn tune
“Mother Hubbard” march by Sousa
“Miss Trombone” a trombone section feature, “Shennadoah” – euphonium solo by Briana Elgelbert (principal euphonium)
Selections from “Showboat” the musical
“Bride Elect” selections by Sousa
“Black & White Rag” – xylophone solo by Marco Schrripa (TTU adjunct percussion professor)
“How Great Thou Art” – hymn feature
“Across the Danube” march by Sousa
“American Civil War Fantasy” by Bilick, and
“Semper Fidelis,” the official U.S. Marines march by Sousa.

Tickets are available at the following outlets:
On It’s Way (FedEx & UPS dropoff outlet in the FFG Village Mall); First National Bank of TN branches in Crossville and Fairfield Glade; and Bed & Biscuit Kennel (off of Peavine Road).

Adult tickets are $22 and Students are $5. Season tickets for all three concerts (9/23, 2/10/19, and 4/28/19) are only $50, a significant savings over purchasing single concert tickets.

Season ticket patrons have seating in a reserved section and can exchange a ticket from a concert they cannot attend for a replacement ticket to one of the other concerts.
