Southern Stars Showcase Traveling Brass Concert on Sept. 15

Crossville’s own 30-musician strong professional instrumental ensemble, the Southern Stars Symphonic Brass (SSSB), have released their 24/25 concert season dates. This is their 17th season of providing “Premium Entertainment” with their Crossville Three Concert Subscription Series. All concerts take place in Stone Memorial High School’s 1200 seat auditorium.
The musicians hail from the Tennessee areas of Nashville, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Crossville, Chattanooga, Knoxville, as well as Huntsville, Alabama. The group is comprised of university instrumental music professors, secondary music educators, and freelance professional musicians.
The group’s Music Conductor is Dr. Steven Sudduth, who travels from his home in Michigan to direct the SSSB. Dr. Sudduth has also recently been honored by his selection to become the Music Director of the prestigious Lansing Concert Band announces Dr. Steven Sudduth, from Lansing, Mich. (home of Michigan State University).
The three subscription concerts and the concert themes are:

Brasstacular Moments
Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 3 pm

Ticket prices for a single concert are $22 for Adults, and Students are admitted FREE. An Adult season ticket for all three concerts is a bargain price at $50, and provides a reserved seating area, and the added benefit of a ticket exchange if the season ticket patron has to miss a concert.

The initial concert on Sept. 15 carries the theme of Traveling Brass as it will be a joint concert of the SSSB who will be joined by the Brass Band of Huntsville (BBOH), Alabama.
The concert program selections include:
Southern Stars will open with Nabucco Overture (Verdi); Top Hat, White Tie & Tails (Gershwin); Billy Joel’s Just the Way You Are – Flugelhorn solo by Chris McCormick; Frog Legs Rag; and Jack Tar march (John P. Sousa).
The Brass Band of Huntsville will then play Death or Glory march; Pie Jesu (Andrew Lloyd Webber) – Soprano cornet & Flugelhorn duet; Cartoon Classics (those wacky cartoon themes from our youth ); Theme from the 6 Million Dollar Man. The Joint bands will then play 633 Squadron march (honoring WW2 fighter planes); I’ll Walk With God and Them Basses march.
This concert provides a rare opportunity to hear the acclaimed Southern Stars Symphonic Brass who have been invited to perform on three different occasions for the renowned Great American Brass Band Festival for audiences of 7 to 10 thousand along with internationally-known featured soloists. Couple this with a joint concert of the SSSB and the Brass Band of Huntsville, and you have a unique opportunity to hear two of the top brass bands in North America.
